Jess Stephen-Kuser is the artist, illustrator and designer behind New Root Illustration. Her vibrant renderings draw on her intuitive sense that everything has its own playful magic. She has a particular fondness for plants, squiggles and things with eyes. Jess works digitally, with gouache paints and chalk paint markers, on small and large scales.

 

You can find her work gracing the entrances at Westville Music Bowl, the Arrivals building at Tweed New Haven Airport, a storefront mural at The Shops at Yale and gig posters at College Street Music Hall and Westville Music Bowl, among other public and private places.

 

Jess has been a professional creative for 10+ years and founded New Root Illustration LLC in 2018 as the home of her freelance illustration, art and design work. She has her own line of pins, stickers and magnets with themes like “Yes to Rest” and “Take Heart” to boost us through this profound time of alchemy and change. Jess holds a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art from New York University and lives in CT with her family and fluffy cat.
